The role
We are looking for a Senior Investment Risk Manager and Performance Analysis APG AM.
You will report to the Managing Director of the Investment Risk Management team – for the investment risk and performance analysis scope - and the Managing Director Risk Services – for the performance measurement scope - and work closely with various stakeholders within APG Asset Management.
This is a temporary position with end-date 1 July 2027 and is based in Amsterdam.
This role consists of three assignments as stated below.
Assignment 1
Risk and performance analysis tooling
You, together with risk professionals within the investment risk management team and relevant stakeholders within APG Asset Management, will focus on
The preferred (future-proof) risk management and performance measurement system(s) for the investment risk management team. Deliverables that are part of this assignment will be:
- Defining the requirements from internal and external stakeholders
- Determine the functionalities that are needed – like required risk and performance analytics and reporting capabilities – but also related to scalability
- Ensuring that the preferred solution(s) can handle various risk types (like market risk, credit risk, liquidity and sustainability risks)
- Ensuring that the preferred solution(s) supports the specific (performance) calculation methodologies required for the client investment portfolio composition.
- Ensuring that the risk management and performance measurement solution integrates with the (future-state) system landscape within APG Asset Management
- Create a shortlist of potential vendors and investigate their credibility and reputation
- Provide a cost analysis for the different solutions
Assignment 2
Transition management
Support and safeguard the execution of risk management and monitoring activities within the Investment Risk Management team to facilitate a smooth transition of the non-ABP clients. In addition, you will contribute to the transition of the investment risk management department by assessing the various products and services (as part of the fiduciary services or investment (mandate) services to further strengthen the positioning of the team.
Assignment 3
Operational excellence
The performance measurement and analysis activities within APG Asset Management are scattered around various departments, each delivering analysis and insights to various stakeholders (internal and external). Determine whether this set-up is efficient and effective and investigate alternative design options to strengthen the performance measurement and analysis function within APG Asset Management.
What you would do
- Project work, including a detailed design of future state risk management and performance analysis solution(s) for the investment risk management domain.
- Supporting role to facilitate a smooth transition of the non-ABP clients.
- Assess the team's product and service offering and provide an implementation plan to strengthen the team's second line role.
- Set-up and align on the performance measurement and analysis function role within APG Asset Management.
What you bring
You combine strong expertise with the ability to translate trends and best practices into practical improvements and drive change. You act as an authority and sparring partner for senior stakeholders, with proven experience in collaboration and motivating diverse groups. You bring excellent communication and listening skills, a coaching leadership style, and the ability to connect across levels while thinking conceptually. Also, you demonstrate strong problem-solving and conflict management skills, with empathy for different perspectives and backgrounds.
Furthermore you bring:
- Academic (WO) working and thinking level with an academic degree in a relevant field. Post academic training such as CFA, VBA, CAIA, CIPM, FRM or quantitative background is a big plus.
- At least 12 years of work experience in the field of investment risk management and performance and risk analysis.
- In-depth expertise required on performance measurement and risk management / analysis including trends and internal/external developments to be able to guide and advise on performance and risk management solutions.
