This role offers a unique opportunity to work directly on large-scale infrastructure investments, embedding ESG and impact considerations into transactions that shape the future of energy, transport, telecommunications, and utilities.
As part of a high-performing team managing over €30 billion in assets with a mandate double this asset base, you will play a central role in advancing APG’s Responsible Investment strategy across a diverse and evolving portfolio. The role

APG is one of the world’s largest pension investors, managing over €600 billion in assets on behalf of Dutch pension funds and their participants. Our Global Infrastructure team consists of c. 60 professionals that oversee a diversified portfolio of more than €30 billion. We invest directly in essential sectors such as energy, utilities, telecommunications, and transportation. With offices in Amsterdam, New York, and Hong Kong, we operate globally and invest in assets that are critical to the functioning and development of modern economies.

 

What you would do

 

Responsible Investment Strategy:

  • Contribute to the ongoing evolution and execution of APG’s RI ambitions.
  • Innovate and enhance sustainability and impact-focused tools, processes and methodologies. This can include initiatives such as Net Zero transition, climate risk physical and biodiversity.

 

Investment Analysis:

  • Play a key role in ESG and impact assessments for new investment opportunities, ensuring alignment with APG’s Guidelines, Policies and Objectives.
  • Together with transaction teams, undertake ESG due diligence to ensure new investments support our goal of creating a positive societal contribution.

 

Portfolio Management

  • Proactively engage with APG’s portfolio companies to drive meaningful change in line with our team’s and client’s goals and objectives.
  • Monitor and analyze ESG performance across the portfolio, including progress towards Net-Zero and compliance with EU SFDR.
  • Supported by the APG Infrastructure Data Analytics team, drive collection, measurement and reporting of ESG metrics across our portfolio.

 

Thought Leadership

  • Alongside a team of 4 senior responsible investment colleagues within the Infrastructure team, advise APG’s clients and other external stakeholders on industry developments and challenges.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams and external industry forums to develop collaborative new ideas in the responsible investment space.

 

What you bring

 

Education

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Sustainability, Environmental Science, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.

 

Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in ESG, sustainability, or responsible investment, preferably with a background in advisory or asset management in infrastructure or energy sectors.
  • Experience with change management in investment or corporate settings is highly desirable.
  • International exposure and familiarity with ESG practices across jurisdictions are advantageous.

 

Technical Competencies

  • Strong understanding of ESG frameworks and regulations (e.g. IIGCC NZIF, PCRAM, SFDR, CSRD, TCFD, TNFD, GRESB, ISO).
  • Proficiency in climate scenario analysis, carbon accounting, and climate risk modeling.
  • Experience with ESG data platforms and reporting tools; data visualization skills using Qlik, Power BI, or similar tools.
