3 situations to bring your network to life

At a party

Yes, there you are at that party. You just told a super great story about APG and it turns out your conversation partner is interested! You don't quite know the ins and outs, however, he might just fit in right. What do you do?

Great job! You got your conversation partner excited about APG. The next step depends on your connection to the person, and what feels good for you both. Some suggestions:

  • Ask your conversation partner what kind of job he's interested in. Maybe you work in the same field and you can tell him more about it. Or maybe you can introduce him to somebody at APG who works in this specific area.
  • You can ask him to take a look at the vacancy overview at the career site. Or take a look together.
  • You can agree to have a follow up moment. And don't forget... sometimes it needs some time before the perfect job opening appears.
  • You can invite him for a coffee at the office to tell him more / show him around.
  • Did your conversation partner spot a nice vacancy? Then all you have to do is fill out the online referral form. Don't forget to ask if you can share his name and e-mail address with APG.

At the gym

You get into a conversation with your neighbor at the gym. By the way, not the first time you see each other, you always have a brief chat. She tells you that she has had a rough day, she works at ... and is not having a great time. You work as ... at APG and know we are always looking for talented new colleagues. She makes a good impression on you. What do you do?

LinkedIn

On LinkedIn you see that former colleague popping up among all those other 1001 posts. You remember she always used to be a super smart and nice lady! But then again, it's been 7 years since you last spoke. Is it crazy to send a message? Certainly not! In fact, people find it super nice to get a message from you. Keep it short and simple. Here are some examples:

Hi Agnes,

I saw you on LinkedIn. It's been 7 years since we worked together. I work at APG now, nice to catch up sometime?

OR

Hi Agnes,

What a great time we had at company X. Has been 7 years already, time flies. Would you like to hear about working at APG?  We are always looking for good people. Just let me know!

Or SUPER SHORT:

Hi Agnes, how are you?

Everything starts a conversation. You know each other and that's the basis of trust. In 99 times out of 100, people super enjoy hearing from you. And you're not a recruiter, which makes a big difference! So go for it and make that network come alive!
