This is going to be your job

Are you interested in investment risk management, enterprise risk management, compliance and finance? Are you socially engaged, and do you most enjoy using your talent to contribute to a more sustainable society? Rather than steering clear of risks, do you welcome the challenge of dealing with them? Also, would you like to work on the digitalization of risk management? If so, then read about this vacancy for the Risk & Finance Traineeship with APG.

The role

As a Risk & Finance trainee with APG Asset Management you’ll get to know all kinds of aspects of risk management and finance. In this trainee position you are part of the second line within APG Asset Management, where you’ll learn how to oversee investment risks, operational risks and compliance risks. You’ll also learn how these risks are measured, monitored and expressed in various client management and risk reports and you’ll get to know the risk management side of an asset management organization.

You’ll work on four assignments that fit with your university education, your interests and the organizational interest. The departments to which you might be allocated for these assignments are Investment Risk Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Compliance and Finance. Within each of these departments there are various teams.

Examples of assignments previous trainees have worked on are: in the Responsible Investment Risk Management team you can contribute to the further development and build of the sustainability risk tool; the Model Risk Management team has fantastic assignments for you if you’re interested in validating strategic models such as the ALM model; and if your interests lie more in the direction of strategic, non-financial risks and business risks, then the Enterprise Risk Management team is meant for you with interesting assignments such as working on the company’s self-service development.

As a trainee you will find your ideas much appreciated, and you will contribute to the further development and implementation of the various areas of risk management. Your fellow team members are just as curious as you are. This is your chance to work on your idea.

Trainee Amber van Roemburg about the traineeship: “The Risk & Finance Traineeship provides numerous opportunities to explore different departments within CFRO. As a risk-oriented trainee, my first assignment focused on developing a sustainability risk tool to evaluate sustainability risks. My second assignment, on the other hand, took a more top-down approach, emphasizing firm-wide risks such as data and technology risks. This experience allowed me to acquire knowledge across a broad range of areas. The traineeship offers great support, including a buddy, mentor, and field coach. Additionally, APG is very welcoming, colleagues are always eager to assist. What I particularly appreciated was seeing theoretical frameworks come to life in real-world applications.“

As a Risk & Finance Trainee you’ll work as a real strategic partner together with the rest of the company, and you’ll consult closely with stakeholders to take the right risk-based decisions. One of the key elements is the stimulation of risk-awareness with the help of data-driven insights. Your fellow team members work on this from the perspective of their own field of expertise, from qualitative matters to quant-related subjects.
Difficult to choose? We can well imagine. However, as a trainee you don’t have to worry about this: you can first get to know a range of topics. You can also use all your technical and programming skills: we want to learn from you too!
