This is going to be your job

Are you eager to learn more about investing in equities, corporate and government bonds, real estate, private equity, infrastructure and various other investment categories? Are you socially engaged, and would you like to use your skills to contribute to a more sustainable society? Are you interested in joining one of the world’s biggest investors? If so, then continue reading our vacancy for an Investment & Portfolio Management Traineeship with APG.

The role

By starting as a trainee with Investment & Portfolio Management you’re joining the trend toward sustainable investment. APG Asset Management is a global frontrunner in responsible investment, and as a trainee, you will play an integral role in this mission from the outset. APG manages a diverse range of asset classes, offering you a unique learning environment surrounded by seasoned investment professionals.

During the traineeship you’ll be given the opportunity to rotate across four different teams, and in each team, you will be working on a different assignment. The teams you could join during the traineeship include Fixed Income, Listed Equities, Treasury & Trading, Private Equity and various teams within the Real Assets sector, such as Real Estate and Infrastructure. Examples of assignments you might work on include analyzing the effect of macroeconomic changes such as rising interest rates or deglobalization on our portfolios. Alternatively, you could develop a sophisticated model to calculate portfolio carbon footprints.

Former-Trainee Niels van Blitterswijk (now assistant Portfolio Manager) on his traineeship: “The interesting thing about one of my assignments was that the result was used to signal investment possibilities among the various maturities of government bonds issued by emerging countries. This assignment had allowed me to gain proficiency in a diverse range of digital tools, for which I had been able to follow the appropriate training courses. I also learned a lot from my fellow team members about our investments, the investment process and the portfolio management activities.”

Do you want to learn from our knowledge and expertise? We value the fresh perspectives and insights you bring, including your knowledge in the evolving fields of investment risk management and digitization. At APG, you will work in multi-disciplinary teams and will be given plenty of opportunities to impress us with your academic knowledge and out-of-the-box ideas. If your idea proves successful, you will be made responsible for scaling it up and selling it to your stakeholders. Thanks to the flat organizational structure in Portfolio Management, you will swiftly find yourself in positions of responsibility. Wherever you begin, as a trainee you will make a significant impact within APG.
