Job description
In the role of Software Engineer, you will contribute to the Multi Asset products and services by developing, implementing and maintaining in-house built applications and tools. In that capacity you will cooperate with portfolio managers, traders and researchers, most specifically with those that are involved with quantitative R&D. The level of knowledge of quantitative techniques across the department is high and there is a strong ambition to continuously improve on these from a return, risk and operational efficiency perspective.
Examples of in-house built models that we employ are:
- Interest rate derivative pricing and exposure management
- Optimization of cash and collateral balances
- Relative value modeling for interest rate curves
- Multi-factor model for running a tactical FX strategy
- Simulation based model for measurement of counterparty credit risk
- Risk management modules for steering the currency and interest rate overlays
- Systematic strategy for limiting market impact of executing equity-baskets
Primary Responsibilities
Your main duties and responsibilities are:
- Contribute to the development and realization of the digitalization vision within Multi Asset.
- Contribute to (actual) process of translating models/research into (production ready) code/user-tooling, in line with design principles, policies and control frameworks.
- Close interaction with quants, quant traders and quant portfolio managers on current and forthcoming research and development activities, including the planning of the required software implementation.
- Structuring the Multi Asset IT & digi landscape by:
1.) identifying and realizing infrastructural components, frameworks and new technology;
2.) data management (incl. sourcing / gathering, storage and delivery to end users);
3.) coordinating the development cycle and release process;
4.) streamlining architecture of in-house developed software.
- Documentation of software development and setting of documentation standards.
- Provide guidance to PMs / traders with respect to best practices for a broad range of IT infrastructure, data and digitalization related topics.
- Stimulate cross-functional cooperation, in particular connectivity of tooling / applications and fully automated cross-functional data sharing.
Profile
For the Multi Asset teams we are looking for a hands-on team player to strengthen the team. The candidate has:
- An academic degree in software engineering, computer science or equivalent qualification.
- At least 3 to 7 years relevant working experience, preferably in the investment industry.
- Highly experienced in Python, R and C++ (both in PC-based and server-based/Linux environments).
- Experience with various database management systems (incl. add-ons).
- Working knowledge of API usage/development and protocols.
- Comfortable working with (integration of) streaming (timeseries) data.
- Hands-on expertise in design and implementation of event driven architecture and systems.
- Basic understanding of front-end development frameworks
- Significant experience with best practices (Azure DevOps/git, testing, CI/CD and documentation).
- A curious, multidimensional, creative, pro-active, open minded, independent, pragmatic and digital mindset.
- A focus on (investment) excellence and cost effectiveness.
- Excellent command of the English language (both verbally and in writing), while command of the Dutch language is viewed favorably.

- Asset Allocation & Overlay
This team focusses on managing the investment portfolio from a top-down perspective. Examples of key activities are monitoring and analyzing market and economic developments that may impact total portfolio return and risk, steering and rebalancing the asset mix in line with client specific policies, and overseeing client specific overlay activities, in particular with respect to hedging interest rate and currency risk.
- Treasury & Trading
Implementation of all investment decisions across equities, fixed income, money markets, currencies and a broad variety of listed and OTC derivatives is the responsibility of this team. The team’s expertise is to implement large exposures effectively and discretely, thereby avoiding impact on market prices. A highly varied technical infrastructure is applied to access markets and liquidity; in many cases systematic trading strategies are applied. A large part of the trading activities also requires active management of counterparty credit and liquidity risks and the team is responsible for managing those risks in line with frameworks that are agreed with the pensionfund clients.
