The Asset Risk Management Team
At APG Asset Management, you will be part of the global CFRO/IRM team, consisting of approximately 40 colleagues based in Amsterdam, New York, and Hong Kong. As a second-line risk management department, IRM is involved in every step of the investment decision-making process, from ALM and strategic asset allocation to individual asset classes, funds, portfolios, and individual investments.
The broad scope of responsibilities within IRM is divided into four teams: Asset Class Risk Management, Client Risk and Performance Management, Risk Analytics, and the Responsible Investments team. CFRO/IRM stands out for its globally aligned approach, effectiveness, efficiency, quality and optimizing the level of standardization.
This position is within the Asset Class Risk Management (ACRM) team based in Amsterdam. ACRM oversees the entire investment decision-making and management process across all asset classes in which APG invests, from idea and identification to approval in Investment Committees and ongoing monitoring until the final exit.
What you would do
APG Asset Management is seeking a Financial Risk Manager to join the global Investment Risk Management (CFRO/IRM) department. You will maintain and further develop the risk management deliverables (e.g., risk advice) and processes of the team.
In this challenging role, your focus will be on conducting risk monitoring and management activities for Real Assets, including Infrastructure, Real Estate, Natural Resources, and Private Equity.
Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with and providing risk advice and opinions on investment proposals.
- Preparing risk analyses for your assigned asset classes to support Investment Committees, the Asset Management Risk Committee, and clients (directly or indirectly).
- Contributing to the development, digitalization, maintenance, and updates of quantitative tools and analyses to support the asset risk monitoring framework.
- Conducting continuous risk monitoring, management activities, and investment oversight, including best execution for Real Assets.
- Preparing comprehensive risk reports and taking ownership of risk monitoring and management processes.
- Representing second-line risk management to internal and external stakeholders.
- Maintaining open and constructive relationships with stakeholders.
What you bring
As a Financial Risk Manager, you are a team player with a hands-on approach who can work independently. You possess excellent communication skills, a solution-oriented mindset, and a proactive attitude. You hold yourself to high standards and demonstrate strong organizational sensitivity. Precision, initiative, and self-motivation come naturally to you.
We are looking for candidates with:
- A Master’s degree in a relevant field (Economics, Econometrics, or Finance) or a comparable background.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in an asset management environment, including a significant portion in a risk management role.
- Solid knowledge and experience with Real Assets.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
- Strong analytical and presentation skills, confident in interacting with senior management and navigating a large organization with multiple stakeholders.
- Relevant certifications (CFA, VBA, CAIA, FRM) are a strong advantage.
Technical competencies:
- Programming skills in Matlab, Python, or R.
- Familiarity with tools such as Qlik, Power BI.
- Experience with RM4 (MSCI Riskmetrics), Bloomberg, and Alteryx.

We will offer you, depending on relevant knowledge and experience, a gross salary in the range of 5148 - 6000 EUR based on full-time employment and great employment conditions aimed at flexibility, such as:
