IT at APG

The Netherlands will have a renewed pension system. Between 2025 and 2028, our 8 pension fund customers, with 4.5 million pension participants, will switch to the new pension system in which personal pension assets will move more with the economy. The transition must go smoothly. Our Developers, Architects, Engineers and Testers are working on the integration of a new policy and capital markets administration into our system, application and website landscape. It requires an enormous IT operation to smoothly convert the data of 4.5 million pension participants.

We believe that investment decisions improve with the use of data and digital technology. That is why we invest in workflow automation and digital analysis platforms. Application integration and cloud migration will also contribute to this. So that billions of pension money we have under management can be invested even more efficiently.

Joep is one of the testers of the processes and interfaces in the new pension and capital administration that we are building. He can perfectly apply his experience as an exploratory and automated tester at APG. Joep: “You have to be able to deal well with uncertainty. In advance you do not know exactly how to prepare your tests. And together with developers and business analysts you work to gather the right information.”

“I am a Developer within the Investments & Asset Management business unit of APG. I'm in the first line. I am end-to-end responsible for an application. I am also a scrum master. This combination of content and process suits me well. I help application managers to increasingly master the DevOps way of working. Stakeholder management is my magic word within APG. Understand and align the business. Then you get things done.”

“Security is high on the agenda within APG. To be honest, security works best if you no longer use computers at all. But that is of course not an option and so you have to find a balance. For example, AI, which offers opportunities but also entails security risks. Our approach is to increase awareness in the organization and manage risks. We want to protect APG against cyber criminals. To me that cat and mouse game is an enormous challenge.” 😼🐭
