Job description

Acting as an Associate at APG Asset Management means being jointly responsible for the largest pension investments in the world. With a total amount of circa €564 billion assets under management, APG is one of the world leaders in responsible and long-term pension investing.

You become a member of the infrastructure team in Amsterdam, which is deploying capital through a mix of (primarily) direct investments and managed accounts. Aim is to further strengthen and expand the European portfolio. Flagship deals like Kallista Energy, Stockholm Exergi, Kenter, and the fiber-to-the-home joint-ventures in the Netherlands and Poland are on the team’s track-record. You will play an active role in the execution of transactions, in sector reviews and you will be responsible for the management of certain existing assets in the portfolio. You will also participate in the origination, structuring and negotiation of new investments. Naturally, you keep track of relevant developments with respect to the infrastructure market. Also, training and coaching of analysts and trainees may be part of your responsibilities.

You have an M&A background or background in another relevant area of expertise, in infrastructure sectors like transport, utilities, (renewable) energy, social infrastructure and/or telecom. Will you contribute to bringing the team to the next level?

You will have (joint) responsibility for further growth of equity investments in private infrastructure assets in Europe within our current €28 billion global portfolio of, in close consultation with fellow senior colleagues, Regional Heads, the Head of Global Infrastructure Investment Strategy, and the Managing Director Global Private Investments.

 

Furthermore, you will also:

• Monitor and report on investments and the portfolio, and relevant developments;

• Liaise with relevant internal departments (e.g. legal, tax, risk and sustainability);

• Monitor trends, and develop insights in the infrastructure investment marketplace;

• Contribute to implementing investment policies and strategies for our global portfolio;

• Grow your professional network, internally as well as externally.

 

Business line / department description

The infrastructure department is deploying capital globally through a mix of (primarily) direct investments and managed accounts. The global team consists of almost 55 investment professionals, split over four teams in Amsterdam, New York, Hong Kong and Singapore.

 

Profile requirements

As an Associate you are eager to learn and able to work independently and as part of a team. You work in a structured way and you exhibit strong analytical, financial, presentation and communication skills. Your project management skills are as equally important as your financial modeling skills. Although you are an infrastructure specialist, you are a generalist with affinity and/or interest in a wider set of investment management work-streams, ranging from market forecasts and regulatory, sustainability, legal and tax-related topics, which you are ready to address working closely with specialists.

 

Additionally we ask for:

• A university graduate in for example economics, finance or business studies;

• A completed postgraduate (post-doctoral) professional program, such as CFA, CAIA or equivalent, or enrolled in such program;

• 3-5 years of experience in M&A and asset management (or other relevant area of expertise);

• Deep knowledge in financial modelling;

• Knowledge and understanding of infrastructure investments and (project) financing;

• M&A and/or industry experience;

• Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills in English, and possibly in other

European languages;

• Sustainability, digitalization and innovation have your particular interest.
