You will be part of a global team of 30 Responsible Investment & Governance experts that guard the implementation of the Responsible Investment Policy, on behalf of APG’s Pension fund clients, across all asset classes in the EUR 500+bn portfolio. APG’s clients have expressed clear ambitions on Responsible Investing in the area of making investments that contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and have increased their allocation to infrastructure and other investments in private markets.

Driven to make a difference for a more sustainable world through investing, you understand the inherent sustainability and governance risks and opportunities. Working closely with the Senior Responsible Investment & Governance Infrastructure Manager, the infrastructure teams globally, and liaising with other relevant stakeholders such as risk management, you will implement APG’s approach to responsible investing in private markets. This encompasses due diligence for real asset investments, manager and market engagement, as well as data analytics. With a strong team ethos you are expected to contribute to RI team performance and take on other responsibilities related to your area of expertise.

Responsible Investing is part of APG AM’s mission statement and we have a dedicated RI Investment Belief. Members of the Global Responsible Investment & Governance team are based in Amsterdam, New York and Hong Kong. The MD Global Responsible Investment & Governance is part of the management team of the investment function and reports into the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) on the APG Assessment Management Board. The implementation of the Responsible Investment Policy is overseen by the board level Investment Committee chaired by the CIO.

This is an important role in helping to implement our clients’ ambitions and making a difference for the 4.7 million pensioners that we serve.

We are looking for a person who thrives in a dynamic environment and possesses strong intercultural and communication skills. Moreover, you are intrinsically motivated to work on sustainability and governance issues within an investment environment. 

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the due diligence of new Infrastructure investments (predominantly direct investments), including assessment of manager and/or asset ESG policies/practices as well risks/issues.
  • Assisting the Global Lead for Infra with the preparation of ESG memos for Investment Committee
  • Analyze ESG data to support investment decision making process
  • Monitoring managers/assets on ESG progress and incidents (particularly through GRESB)
  • Organizing and conducting research for engagement activities; coordinating, participating and/or leading engagements (e.g. one-on-one calls, roundtable events, etc)
  • Helping implement our net zero & climate risk strategy and other key initiatives (biodiversity, diversity, etc)
  • Supporting engagement with industry initiatives to advance market practices
  • Supporting work around real world outcomes measurement
  • Preparing client ESG reporting
  • Helping drive ESG digitalization and data initiatives to expand access to and use of ESG data and digital tools

Furthermore, we ask for: 

  • At least 2 years of relevant professional experience in a corporate environment in business, investment or sustainability or technical consultancy roles.
  • A good understanding of private markets and infrastructure investments is essential. 
  • We are looking for a person who thrives in a dynamic environment and possesses strong intercultural and communication skills.
  • Intrinsically motivated to work on sustainability and governance issues within an investment environment.
  • Fluency in English is essential.
  • At least Master level education in a relevant subject, such as engineering.
  • You are apt at data analytics and possess (or are keen to develop) data science skills.
