About APG
APG is the largest pension provider in the Netherlands and manages the pension assets (over €600 billion) of approximately 4.7 million participants. APG is based out of offices in Amsterdam, Heerlen, New York and Hong Kong.

APG’s Global Private Equity department currently manages approximately EUR 44 billion in assets and comprises of 44 professionals of which 34 are based in New York, 8 in Amsterdam and 2 in Hong Kong. Of the 8 in Amsterdam, 4 investment professionals currently form the Funds Underwriting team and are responsible for the execution of primary fund commitments in Europe as well as managing a portfolio of 14 GP relationships in close collaboration with the PE team members in our other offices.

The APG Global Private Equity team has been built up with steady momentum. In 2019, the first steps for the international expansion of the Global PE team outside of New York were taken with the establishment of a presence in Hong Kong. In 2020, a further expansion took place and four investment professionals were hired to lead primary fund commitments in Europe. The Funds Underwriting team in Amsterdam is now looking to expand their team with an Analyst. We also anticipate adding a sixth investment professional in 2022.

Job description
The Analyst will be responsible for supporting senior team members primarily in the execution of primary fund commitments. The role emphasizes the analysis of new fund investments in the portfolio as well as the ongoing monitoring of a portfolio of 14 (and growing) active GP relationships in Europe. The key responsibilities of the role include developing a network of GP, LP and placement agent relationships by participating in conferences, AGMs and other industry events; performing detailed analysis of track records; and closely collaborating with other team members across various deal-related activities.

You will join one of the largest and most influential private equity programs globally. The Funds Underwriting team not only works in close collaboration with team members in New York and Hong Kong but also with the rest of the Global Private Equity department, including the dedicated Co-Investments, Secondaries, Fund of Funds & Analytics and Mid-Office teams. We are looking for a person with a global mindset, strong communication skills and digitalization capabilities as well as the drive to grow in the private equity industry.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform analyses to assist in the selection process of appropriate investment opportunities, including relative assessments of strategy, organization, track record and terms/conditions of General Partners;
  • Support portfolio managers in the APG decision-making process, including involvement in the due diligence process and the preparation of internal investment proposals;
  • Monitor performance of fund commitments and underlying portfolio companies, including providing support in the internal fund review process;
  • Develop a network with peer professionals from the GP, LP and placement agent communities;
  • Contribute to digitalization efforts within the team;
  • Contribute to the aspirations of APG to continue to be a global leader in responsible investing;
  • And help maintain a funds database and execute related reporting.

The Analyst we are looking for is a team player that can also work independently. The ideal candidate should be able to communicate clearly, have affinity with innovation and digitalization in a broad sense, have strong financial modelling and data management capabilities as well as good soft skills. Additionally, they should be a critical thinker and have the right mindset to act as a long-term responsible investor. Furthermore we ask for:

  • An excellent academic record with a Master’s degree in finance, business, economics or related fields;
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience in the fields of private equity, finance, consulting or banking;
  • An interest in pursuing the CFA designation;
  • Excellent communication skills in English, including the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in written form; command of the Dutch language is viewed favorably;
  • Attention to detail and financial modelling skills;
  • An international mindset and willingness to travel.
