This is going to be your job

You will be part of a global team of 25 Responsible Investment & Governance experts, based in Amsterdam, Hong Kong and New York, who guard the implementation of the Responsible Investment Policy, on behalf of APG’s pension fund clients, across all asset classes in the EUR 550bn portfolio. Circa 75% of the portfolio is managed inhouse across liquid and illiquid asset classes. APG’s clients have expressed clear ambitions for 2025 on Responsible Investing in the area of e.g. making investments that contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), for the portfolio to be Paris-aligned by 2030 and Net Zero by 2050. The focus is on investing responsibly in three transitions: energy, digital and natural resources. Good corporate governance is at the core of being a leading long-term responsible investor. We exercise our voting rights across our global listed equities portfolio and publicly disclose how we vote.

The Global Responsible Investment & Governance (GRIG) team continues to grow and we are looking for a senior corporate governance manager with 10-15 years of relevant experience. Your responsibilities comprise  exercising voting rights on behalf of APG’s clients and in line with the APG Corporate Governance framework and voting policy, company research and engagement as well as market engagement. You will contribute to external communication and represent APG in local and global investor collaborations.

Since the vast majority of our portfolio is managed inhouse and actively, this provides the unique opportunity to work directly together with portfolio managers and investee companies. In-depth governance and sustainability research informs investment decisions within our fundamental equities and also credits portfolio, and especially for the so-called Focus Fund which takes larger stakes in a limited number of small to medium size companies, a very detailed governance assessment is part of the investment hypothesis.

We take our role as engaged shareowner very seriously and we look for an individual who is driven to engage with companies in order to drive change, as well as regulators and policymakers where appropriate. On behalf of APG AM you will work individually and together with internal portfolio managers and likeminded peers in engaging with listed companies in the portfolio to improve governance standards and practices that contribute to APG AM’s position as long-term responsible investor and a more sustainable world. You understand how corporate governance and environmental and social matters are interlinked and incorporate both into your dialogue with companies.

You will make sure APG AM’s Voting Policy is up to the highest standards and that it demonstrates thorough understanding of the latest developments in the market. Also, you ensure that APG AM’s corporate governance and voting policies are properly implemented and upheld in practice globally.

Our responsible investment & corporate governance effort is global and you will work closely with team members in Hongkong and New York. Sharing one’s expertise more widely with colleagues e.g. in the private markets space is expected.

Digital transformation is high on APG’s and the GRIG team’s agenda and you will be involved in our team’s digital agenda. Closely connected to that is data, and you would be involved in identifying our current and future data needs so that we can stay competitive.

This is what you offer

The implementation of the Responsible Investment Policy is overseen by the board level Investment Committee chaired by the CIO, with the MD GRIG being a member. Members of the Global Responsible Investment & Governance team are based in Amsterdam, New York and Hong Kong.
